CHICAGO (June 4, 2011) – The National Soccer Hall of Fame inducted five new members in a ceremony that took place Saturday afternoon before the U.S. Men’s National Team’s match against Spain at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA. The 2011 Induction Class includes Cobi Jones, Eddie Pope and Earnie Stewart in the Player category, Bruce Murray as a Veteran and Bob Gansler as a Builder. The five were introduced on the field before the game, along with current members of the Hall of Fame.
Joining the players in this year’s class was veteran Bruce Murray, a midfielder and forward who was one of the leading stars of the U.S. Men’s National Team in the late 1980s and early 1990s. At the time of his retirement in 1993, he was the all-time leading scorer with 21 goals and the all-time leader in caps with 86 appearances. He is currently coaching at Carolina Elite Soccer Academy (CESA) in Greenville, S.C.
Bruce Murray is also the former Technical Director and a Coach at FC Greater Boston. In 2004, Bruce assisted Head Coach John Kerr to a MA State Cup Championship for the Bolts U18 Boys. That team went on to win Regionals and represent Region 1 at USYS Nationals that year in Orlando, FL where they finished in 3rd place. Members of that team include current MLS Seattle Sounders player Mike Fucito, former NE Revolution player Sam Brill and former Providence College players Tim Ritter and Alex Bury just to name a few. Bruce coached current Bolts players Mac Steeves, Aidan Browne, Ryan Sewall, Will Corkery and Brandon Miskin when they were U11. They were KC Andre Cup Champions in 2005 and he also coached the Girls U12 who were semi-finalists in the Maple Irwin Cup that year.
Bolts players from our Boys U12 and U13 teams were ball boys at the game at Gillette. Players carried the FIFA flag onto the field during the pre-game ceremony.
