FC Bolts Celtic is pleased to announce that we have secured a home field for our club beginning Fall 2012. Our new home field will be located at Mount Ida College, centrally located on 72 beautiful acres in Newton, MA. FC Bolts Celtic and Mount Ida College signed a long-term agreement last week. The agreement formalizes their partnership to work together to provide the best playing facilities in Greater Boston for their respective teams.
Mount Ida College recently announced that it would be replacing the main athletic field with a new artificial turf surface that will be completed by the start of the 2012 fall athletic season. The new artificial turf field will also feature the installation of lights, new bleachers, a press box, and scoreboard. In addition, the College is expanding an existing practice field into a regulation-size grass playing surface that will allow additional field access for our Bolts teams. The natural grass practice field is expected to be ready by fall 2013. The grass needs to "grow" for one year before playing on it.
Scott Burke, President FC Bolts Celtic, said, "The new home field addresses the growing needs of our players and families to stay more local; our need to enhance the quality of our playing fields; and our desire to provide more consistency regarding where and when we practice and play games". Elliott Pratt, CEO, added, "It will also increase the sense of community, club spirit and pride among our players and alumni."
The home field provides many benefits to the Bolts community including: more flexible game and practice times, less impact of inclement weather on athletic events, increased practice and game opportunities with home games being played on Sunday and training taking place during the week, and less travel time (ideally less than 20 minutes). In fact, our new home field is ten miles or less from towns such as Newton, Needham (5), Brookline (5), West Roxbury (5.5), Wellesley (6), Belmont (6), Weston (6.5), Cambridge (7.5), Boston (8), Lexington (9), Natick (10) and Winchester (10), to name a few.
Director of Coaching, Brian Ainscough stated, "The new home field signals the start of a new era for FC Bolts Celtic and provides amazing opportunities for our players, coaches, clinics and summer programs. We are eagerly anticipating the opening of the turf field this fall and the gathering of our players, parents, staff, and alumni around the new home of the Bolts."
We will continue to maintain our relationships with other field providers such as Harvard, BB&N, Fenn, SSDS and Brandeis.
